Meet the Composites Team

From design to layup, the Composites sub-team is the backbone of the team. For the 2026 season, Formula Buckeyes is excited to introduce the leadership guiding the Composites team.

Luke Murray– Chassis Director

As Chassis Director, Luke, a junior mechanical engineer, oversees the foundation of the car. From early design phases to final integration, he ensures that the chassis meets regulations, safety, and manufacturing goals. His role requires working closely with every sub-team to ensure the most optimal and efficient design year after year.

Advice for members: Be productive at the shop

JP Klein– Composites Lead

JP, a sophomore aerospace engineering and aviation major, leads manufacturing and quality of composite components for Aerodynamics, Chassis, Ergonomics, and Suspension sub-teams. He works closely with each group on design for manufacturing (DFM), creation and preparation of molds, and composite part production. Additionally, JP educates members on composite techniques and best practices.

Advice for members: Learn as much as you can. Ask your lead about anything you see them doing and everything in the shop. There will always be someone willing to teach you

Ethan Crawford– Brakes and Ergonomics Lead

As a junior industrial and systems engineering major, Ethan primarily focuses on the braking system, optimizing performance, reliability, and driver comfortability. He is responsible for leading brake rotor designs to improve efficiency and heat management. Leading a team of members and engineers, Ethan ensures the braking system performs consistently, directly impacting driver confidence and track performance.

Advice for members: Don’t be afraid to ask questions!

Jack Bales– Brakes and Ergonomics Lead

Jack, a sophomore aerospace engineer, leads the ergonomics side of the sub-team and is currently focused on designing and manufacturing the team’s custom seat. Jack’s primary focus is on driver comfort, ensuring that the entire system, from the pedals to the steering wheel and seat meet driver needs. This provides a strong connection between driver and car, making sure that the team can compete at the highest level.

Advice for members: Focus on doing things correctly instead of just doing them quickly
